Krimchi Temples is one of the oldest temples of Jammu and is of high mythological significance. There are four large and three small temples in the complex and each is equally breathtaking. The main Krimchi temple is 50 ft high and consists of sculptures of Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, Lord Vishnu and Goddess Parvati. It is located in Krimchi, a small village in the Udhampur district of the state of Jammu and Kashmir which is about 20 km away from the city of Jammu and 8-10 km north-west of Udhampur. This district is famous for its mineral deposits. Krimchi is the site of one of the oldest temple complexes of Jammu. These ancient temples of Krimchi are believed to have been constructed in the 11th – 12th century AD, locally known as the Pandava Temples. The architecture of the temples shows distinct Greek (Hellenic) influences.
As per the legends, Raja Kichak of Mahabharat was said to be the creator of town Krimchi and the Kingdom. It is also said that Pandavas while in exile remained there for a long period. The Krimchi temples is something people who love art must visit. The carvings all round the temple are simply gorgeous and the walk to the temple from the Krimchi village is tremendously scenic too.
